Here is a beaded red leather moccasin papoose, designed with a leather hanger to place on your wall. Placed safely inside is a rubber Native American baby doll. The moccasin is stuffed with pieces of leather to hold the baby tight. Hand made and hand sewn. The fur is quite soft. This is in very good vintage condition. All of the strung beads are intact. Measures approximately 5” in length. A papoose (from the Algonquian papoose, meaning "child") is an American English loanword whose present meaning is "a Native American child" (regardless of tribe) or, even more generally, any child, usually used as a term of endearment, often in the context of the child's mother. The word came originally from the Narragansett tribe. Cradle boards and other child carriers used by Native Americans are known by various names. In the United States and the United Kingdom, the term "papoose" is sometimes used to refer to a child carrier.
