SOLD! 1940’s Fenton Hobnail Blue Glass Salt Cellar
Here is a vintage 1940’s blue glass hobnail salt cellar made by The Fenton Glass Company. This salt cellar measures 3” wide, square by 1 1/4” deep. There are 2 chips, one on the top corner the other on the same edge bottom corner, not visible unless close inspection, displays very nice.
Use of salt cellars is documented as early as classical Rome. They continued to be used through the first half of the 20th century; however, usage began to decline with the introduction of free-flowing salt in 1911, and at last they have been almost entirely replaced by salt shakers.
